Looking back on the spring conference "Age(ing) and Health"
From 29.02-01.03, the joint spring conference of the two DGS sections "Age(ing) and Society" and "Medical and Health Sociology" took place at the International Meeting Centre (IBZ) of the TU Dortmund with numerous participants from academia and the interested public, who travelled not only from all over Germany but also from Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands. The topics were diverse, too, ranging from "Images of Ageing" to "Mental Health and Wellbeing" and "Vulnerability" (for details, see abstract volume). In addition to theoretical and empirical contributions at the intersection of health and ageing sociology, presentations on the further development of the data infrastructure also contributed to lively discussions. A special highlight was the evening event in the Museum of Art and Cultural History, hosted by the City of Dortmund as part of the cooperation in the Science Masterplan. Thus, the first day of the conference ended sociable with canapés and drinks in a splendid historical setting. In addition to other exciting contributions on the second day of the event, there was also a poster session in which, among others, students from the Master's programme "Ageing Societies” took the opportunity to present their Master's thesis plans and exchange ideas with scholars on site. The conference concluded with a panel from the HBS doctoral programme "New Challenges in Ageing Societies", where, in addition to a brief introduction to the programme, the first scholarship holders were able to present their topics and discuss them in plenary.
We would like to thank all participants for the stimulating conference!
