The new focus profile FAIR From Prediction to Agile InteRventions in the Social Sciences at TU Dortmund University will be funded with about two million euros over three years. Within this framework, an interdisciplinary research team will develop data science methods for social research that address societal challenges in areas such as education, health and participation.

The interdisciplinary profil FAIR intensifies the cooperation of social sciences with statistics and data science at TU Dortmund. Building this bridge is important because increasingly larger and more complex data, for example from longitudinal studies in empirical educational research and life course data from sociological research on ageing, can contribute to detailed prognoses and a more profound understanding of interrelationships. However, which interventions are promising at the individual level, for example for schoolchildren, must be decided based on small case numbers. Successful measures must therefore take into account large amounts of data and small numbers of cases.

The contact person for sociology is Prof. Dr. Martina Brandt.
