New article by Robert Heidemann on the self-esteem of LGB individuals published

How does social change affect the self-esteem of lesbian, gay, and bisexual people in the second half of their lives?

Data from the German Ageing Survey (2008–2021) show:

  • The self-esteem of LGB people has increased significantly in recent years.
  • By 2017, differences between LGB individuals and heterosexual individuals were barely noticeable.
  • Social openness and legal equality go hand in hand with greater well-being.

Conclusion: Public debate and legal recognition not only strengthen the rights of stigmatized groups, but also their self-esteem.
