The World Happiness Report was published on March 20, 2025. The annual study analyzes life satisfaction in over 140 countries. According to the report, important influencing factors for happiness are social support, economic stability and interpersonal engagement.

Our research also focuses intensively on the determinants of life satisfaction. For example, a study by Alina Schmitz and Martina Brandt shows that the regional care infrastructure has a decisive influence on the life satisfaction of older people. People with health restrictions in particular benefit from a well-developed infrastructure, which is perceived as a safety net and increases well-being. Further results can be found in the article: Health Limitations, Regional Care Infrastructure and Wellbeing in Later Life: A Multilevel Analysis of 96 European Regions | Social Indicators Research.

The results of the World Happiness Report and our own research underline the importance of targeted political measures to promote life satisfaction. This includes both the expansion of social infrastructure and the promotion of interpersonal engagement and social trust.
