New Book Chapter on Care in Migrant Families Published

© Ethnic and Racial Studies

A recently published chapter titled "Care and wellbeing across Europe – a research frame for studying migrant families" by Martina Brandt and Judith Kaschowitz makes a significant contribution to the study of care in migrant families. The authors provide an overview of theoretical models on care and wellbeing, adapting them to various migrant groups across Europe.

The chapter addresses key questions such as: Are migrants more likely to give or use care compared to natives, and if so, why? Are migrant caregivers more or less burdened than non-migrant caregivers? How did the pandemic affect migrant caregivers?

Based on an assessment of the state of quantitative research, the authors highlight limitations and propose paths for future research on care in migrant families. This publication contributes significantly to understanding the challenges and opportunities in caring for older migrants across Europe.

The chapter comes at a time when the question of sustainable care for older people is gaining attention throughout Europe. It offers valuable insights for researchers, policymakers, and practitioners in the field of elderly care and migration.
