We congratulate Alina Schmitz on the successful completion and defense of her doctorate on 13.10.2020. In her doctoral thesis, Alina Schmitz, research associate at the Chair of Social Structure and Sociology of Ageing Societies and at the ISG Institute for Social Research and Social Policy, examined gender differences in the prevalence of depression and the factors influencing the risk of depression. Her analyses are based on data from the Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE). Her dissertation is entitled "Gender differences in depression in old age: risk factors for mental health and coping resources in European comparison". The dissertation was reviewed by Prof. Dr. Martina Brandt (TU Dortmund), Prof. Dr. Claudia Hornberg (University of Bielefeld) and Prof. Dr. Monika Reichert (TU Dortmund).
