The new study by Alina Schmitz, Claudius Garten, Simon Kühne and Martina Brandt investigates worries about inadequate medical treatment in case of a COVID-19 infection in Germany. Sharp increases in the number of patients with severe courses of COVID-19 have overburdened hospital systems and negatively affected health care. Although Germany has a well-equipped health system, the need for triage was also discussed here.

The study sheds light on the following questions: Are there social inequalities in worries about inadequate medical treatment in case of a COVID-19 infection? What is the role of the regional spread of COVID-19 infections and healthcare capacities?
