Doc Day at our department!

On September 4, 2026, eight doctoral candidates presented the current status of their dissertations. We look back on an impressive range of topics related to aging, health, social inequality, caregiving, and social relationships.

From social frailty and health to early- and late-onset dementia, the relationship between household type and perceptions of one’s own death, gender-specific job satisfaction, differences in retirement age by socioeconomic status, and the quality and quantity of social contacts—all the way to social inequality in internet use as well as formal and informal care in Germany and Japan.

A full day of exciting presentations, in-depth discussions, and many new ideas—interrupted by a well-deserved break for cafeteria food and cake. Many thanks to all the doctoral candidates for the fascinating insights and the engaging discussions!
