The Chair "Social Structure and Sociology of Ageing Societies" is involved in various interdisciplinary research projects, most of which are internationally comparative.

Ongoing research projects deal, among others, with socio-economic differences in the context of informal care and health in international comparison (IN-CARE) as well as with the determinants of the well-being of older people in different regional contexts (AGE-WELL). Another project investigates the user-friendliness of technology-based assistance systems for older people and the social embedding of technological developments (Plug-In). As part of a profile focus of the TU Dortmund University (FAIR), an interdisciplinary research team is also developing data science methods for social research that contribute to addressing societal challenges in areas such as education, health and participation.

Already completed are the research project "Truth or Report?" from 2017, which deals with the measurement of health, and the self-funded pilot study "Health and Support in Times of Corona" from 2020.
